A Night at the Arts Event Announcement

The Camden Schools Foundation has announced it will be holding an art event to celebrate student artists in Camden: Night at the Arts! This event will allow Camden City students to showcase their artwork in a professional manner. Student artwork will be judged by Foundation judges and prizes will be awarded, including scholarships for senior students.

Night at the Arts will be held on Thursday, December 9th, 2021 from 6PM – 9PM at the Hilton Garden Inn on the Camden Waterfront.

Eligibility: Students in grades 6-12 that attend any school in Camden, NJ will be eligible to participate. Artwork will be submitted to the Camden Schools Foundation or through their school / art teacher. The registration can be found here. All artwork is due by November 2nd, 2021.

Rules: Artwork must be related to the contest theme: COMING INTO THE LIGHT

Contest categories: drawing, painting, ceramics

Media allowed: pen, pencil, marker, paint, oil, charcoal, watercolor, canvas, paper and ceramic

Participants may submit one piece of art in each category. Artwork must be an original piece, completed solely by the participant in any style (landscape, portrait, still life, abstract, etc.)

The artists will submit a description of their interpretation in 100 words or less. The description must describe how the artwork represents the theme and the type of media used and why.

Prizes: Grades 6-10 will be awarded ribbons for 1st-3rd place in each category, (drawing, painting, ceramics)

Grades 11 and 12 will be awarded cash prizes for 1st-3rd place in each category (drawing, painting, ceramics)

1st Place: $100

2nd Place: $75

3rd Place: $50

Three scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to seniors graduating and planning to attend art school. These scholarships are separate from the contest prizes.

Rubric:

Relevance to Theme (development of theme): 50 points

Originality (uniqueness of idea): 20 points

Visual Effectiveness / Overall Appearance (evidence of thorough planning and preparation): 15 points

Written Message (clearly describes the artist’s intent for the piece): 15 points

Deadline: All artwork is due by November 2, 2021
